Fuel Type - Aussie 69 Beetle
I have just bought 2 beetles (60 and 69), the 60 is currently dead but the 69 is great. I had a '71 beetle years ago and ran it on 'Super', now
LRP. I asked the owner what he used, he said he wasn't sure when he bought it and ran a tank of LRP and then alternated with a tank of Premium
Unleaded.
I don't know anything about the types of fuels, I notice the fuel cap says something about fuel needing to be over 91 Octane. I'd like to be able
to run it on Unleaded, but need guidance....can anyone help? Further, if I can't use basic Unleaded, can I do anything to the system to make it run
on Unleaded?
Do I need to alternate on fuels like he did? Help!

there are a few different opions here and iam sure u will hear them all. But rom what I gather the standard is unleaded (pulp or ulp is under debate)
is ok, and if ur really worried put in an additive. Personally I run pulp straight and have nor problems.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Do NOT use LRP Fuel.... its garbage...
Do NOT use LRP.. it has NO lead in it to lubricate the valve guides, [and its garbage] and VW engines after 1965 [approx] have hardened valve guidesso they don't need the lead anyway... [if You could get it]...
Most run on Unleaded OK, many people are using Optimax or similar Premium unleaded Fuel... I am going to Use Unleaded with a couple of litres of
Premium unleaded just to keep the Octane rating correct. Its best to use a well known brand of fuel... Shell-Mobil-BP etc... as Your Beetle or Kombi
deserves the Best.... Well, doesn't it....

i tend to alternate mobil pulp and regular unleaded. additive with the regular from time to time.

I run my '59 on Premium ulp from shell (optimax) as it has one of the highest octane ratings around (some other company has the same octane but I
can't remember who).
I have had no problems what so ever.
My Mechanic states that he will not honour a warrently if the car is run on LRP and he recomends the higher pulp avail (shell or BP???)
I don't run additives, or alternate either.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail.....
But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Damm that was fun!!!"

just remember u can get fined for running a car on unleaded without a cad so be carefull and the fumes are cancerious without one

i believe it is a catalytic converter?
i heard somwhere certain age cars are exempt from the emmissions laws though..
i'd just run PULP.. infact i asked about it yesterday on OCAU and from now on the 68' is going on PULP not LRP. |

Run on B.P. Premium, They have the cleanest burning Fuel, I have advise from an engineer who did the clean fuel rebuild on the B.P. refinery 2 yrs
ago. At present he is doing the rebuild on Caltex and it will take another 2 yrs before that is complete.
