Pre-1970 Beetle with Engine using Unleaded Petrol
Has anyone converted any pre-1970 Beetle to engine using unleaded petrol ?

There was a thread on petrol in the last couple of months, try a search if you want the technical details but I think consensus was that you can use
unleaded in any VW motor, even pre 1970, but better off with premium unleaded with a squirt of engine lubricant.
I use premium in my 63 and 77 with no worries. The 77 runs really roughly with normal unleaded...

I occasionally run on unleaded;
normaly running Lead replacemnet petrol.
Some times I'll add a litre of Diesel as an UCL
This is in my aircooled pushrod........................

dont use lead replacement it is crap fuel , dont use any additives there not needed , use premium or normal unleaded (unleaded may cause run on in
engine) .
this was the 5 pages of technical talk summarised to

Don't use lead replacement fuel... LRP
Lead Replacement Petrol is rubbish.... You are better off using unleaded or a mixture of unleaded & premium unleaded to boost the octane rating
slightly... If You have access to inexpensive Premium unleaded just run it....
Lead Replacement Petrol has additives that do More harm than good, and can clog up Your carbies.... I was lead to believe that it was to be
discontinued early this year...
The other thing is, because its sitting in the service station tanks for so long, as hardly any is being sold, it can go off & cause problems... I
wouldn't use it in My Lawn mower...
Early Holden owners must be using an additive, as they needed the lead for lubrication of the valve stems... VWs have hardened valve stems...
