Fuel Tank sender units

My wife and I recently purchased a modified 57 oval. We have a fuel gauge but no sender unit. Anybody have any tips on what sort of sender I should be looking for and if it is job that a technical moron like myslef could accomplish. I am in the Wollongong/Sydney area if there are suggestions on places that could assist.

Welcome to the forum. I have a VDO sender which is a round plate the size of a 50c piece screwed to the top of the fuel tank with one wire coming out going to the guage. It looks very easy to do, EXCEPT, I wouldn't go drilling a hole in a petrol tank for fear of a fire or explosion. Please note that none of this information is supplied with any practical knowledge of the subject, just a general look at my fuel tank. Someone like Vintage Vee Dub Supplies
(02) 9789 1777 would do this sort of thing for you, but you would have to pay for the privilege. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, I have two weeks leave and a trip to VVDS was on the cards anyway.
