Flywheel Machining
just a simple question. Are flywheels surface ground or can they be done in a lathe.

as a machinest ( trade ) you can not mach the face in a lathe .the face is very hard ( try to scratch it ) .
You need to grind it yes .
The fly wheels can be lighted as the back is soft . seagull

just a tip from experience - i am getting a custom flywheel made at the moment for my bus, have found out that most machinists will not touch a
flywheel as the weight distribution has to be SOO accurate, and a small wobble of heavy bit at the high speeds that an engine revvs at could rip ur
engine to pieces if it got up a wobble. dont know how much of this is exxaggeration, but i am not willing to find out.

no probs will probably have to get another as the clutch plate was rusted on to the flywheel and very badly pitted when separated.
