sparky blowing
Anyone know why my splitty keeps blowing a sparkplug.....they are very black when i pull them out......help!!

Black - carbon or oil or a combo?? If its carbon its too rich, you need to adjust your carburettor mixture.

So i have backed off the idle (as it was wound right in) adjusted the air screwin until the car slowed down, wound it out until it was normal revs and
there appears to be markedly less exaust smell (fuely).....can anyone confirm whether this sounds right??
it appears ro run better also....what are the consquences of getting the mixture too rich or too lean??

long term, too lean burns valves, too rich dilutes oil & reduces lubrication to rings & cylinder walls

from an old memory: screw the mixture screw in until the revs drop slightly, should use a tachometer for this, then unscrew the screw 1/4 turn back...
It was much easier with leaded petrol, You just looked at the exhaust after a run on the highway...
don't forget, that every time You push the pedal down, the accelerator pump on the Solex carburetor squirts more fuel ...
thats why You use more fuel and the mixture [overall] is rich when driving in the city....
