Cheapest bang for buck would be a nice set of 40 or 44 Webers.

Fuel injection (after market) would be nice but i think it would steal a fair bir of that money.

IF you could take yours off the road for a rebuild
105mm P&C's
Webers
cam
exhaust
head work

IF you did it your self you would have a good motor and come in around that money

He's already got twin solex, THEY ARE the best bang for ya $$ you can get.

I also wouldn't have though putting bigger carbies would give you more torque. It might enable the engine to rev higher with the right combo, but the solexes or smaller would be better for torque. Is that right??

a bit more bang for bucks aye. well u have done something about the fuel why not look at the spark or look at your timing . Super charging is a good idea but when u start boosting an engine u seem to have problems if it isnt done right. Personaly if i was to supercharge and engine i would rebuild the engine therefore wile u have it out u can spend some money on performance bits. When i brought my beetle i found it laging in performance but i did the timing and tuned the carbie and made sure it was getting spark ( as it was i needed a 009 dizzy) so maybe thats what u need to do.

I would seriously consider selling yours and buying this one:

http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=22215#pid167144

You would have to spend a lot more than the difference between your kombi and his to get the same mods.

PS. I don't know the guy selling!

I'm with astro regarding the solexes for torque, but then, I've never tried anything else other than stock FI which was bloody fantastic for torque. Stock FI is probably the cheapest way to improve torque on a 2L motor.

Turbo charging does create torque. If you went FI and turbo set up right your 5K might make it. Even at low boost (5 lbs) you need to really pull it down and make sure the rest of it is up to the task.

Otherwise, stick with the solexes, IDFs will move the powerband up the rev range...
