a 009 is a mechanical advance only dizzy.
A SVDA is both mech and vacuum advance.
The 009 is a cheap manufacture dizzy compared to the SVDA and is 1/3 - 1/2 the price BUT is easy to add when you have twin carbs as a vac signal is
hard to get on twins.
read here
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/distributor.htm
and you will get a good understanding of dizzies.

Its Horse week in SCONE ... Yaah Hooo..!!
Yes stick with the Vacuum advance distributor...
Volkswagenwerk Nevre used the Bosch 009 Distributor on any of their vehicles.. its just a cheap distributor that doesn't work very good, unless You
have a lightened flywheel... etc.
Vacuum advance distributors DO NOT have to wait for the engine to pick up revs before advancing the ignition... as they use the vacuum from the
carby..
The 009 has to Wait until the engine revs up, for the mechanical advance to work... so You can see which one is Good and which one is CRAP... New
vacuum advance units that mount on the side of the distributor are available in the US and are Very Expensive - even over there.... the main reason
why 009s are so popular... because of Price...
Nothing more !!
If You have a flat spot with Your 009... take it a VW mechanic, as it can be tuned out..
They can have problems in the US with the 34PICT3 carburetors with the pollution controls when used with Bosch 009 distributors..
Most of those can be tuned out also....
