Ball Joint Removal - how to do easy

Ahh dreaded ball joint removel. Check this out.

http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/qa_balljointrem.htm

Seems like an interesting yet relatively easy way to do it if you have access to a welder.

Anybody tried it this way?

yep it works very well and I have gotten quite a few out like that. I find it very useful with some old Kombi's as they are a pig. A few of the 181 arms I have had, have needed this method as well since they have come from wrecks.

The hammer also works well but sometimes it just isn't enough and I don't like smacking it to much in case it fractures. I also use the press if there is enough lip on the arm for the jig. I know it took 40 Tonne to get on of my 181 Ball joints out

A ten ton Press couldn't take My old Ball Joints out, they had to use a 30 ton press.... wrecked the ball joints too...
nothing wrong with them.. I just replaced everything...

Hi

The hammer trick wont get them out of the trailing arm. When refiiting the new ones you must remember to line up the slots on the ball joint with the markings on the arms.
