You'll find a few of them about, I know of 3 in tasmania and 2 in NSW. They can be great little conversion if done right. I had a T3 Ute, one of 2 or 3 in Aus, that was done perfectly and the finnish showed. That ute is no longer with us thanks to a kid down the road, a match and a heap of petrol. Little shits.

There a great car and a real eye catcher. Go for it.

One of the Locals here [Damian Bateman] built a Beetle ute about 3-4 years ago...
but sold it.. haven't seen it since... did a real good job...
Would have liked to have owned it... Utes come in Handy...
The type 3 utes look great too...

We have toybug working on a Type 3 ute down here in Melbourne:cool:

It's a massive change of ride for him...but I'm sure he'll do something weird and wonderful with it!!! :thumb

This is one I built 25 years ago and it was checked and passed by the then RTA and had no under pan strengthening. It could use either an upright or Type 3 motor and was an excellent car to drive. Its only downfall was that if I had it loaded up with a decent weight for any distance, the rear torsion bars used to sag.I remember jacking it up several times, but seeing it was an original oval pan,I could have found some Type 3 bars which would have been better.I'll bet if I was to build another one that it would be a real PITA to get it approved. Not a good pic but the only one I can find.

Years ago I saw a ripper in Sydney that was done roadster pick-up style.
I think it was at a Volksbahn open day back 91 or 92....Wish I had a pic.....
From memory....
It was black, with a Willys style stepside tray, standard early bug front end, the body extended back about 150mm past the 'B' pillar, with chopped windscreen and no top edge on the glass. It was also VERY low!

Oh where is it now?
