One mutilated buggy (plenty of photos)

There's a few things happening in my garage at the moment, and none of it looks good, yet.

Rear floor section cut and dropped while body is raised, creating deeper well for back seat and more clearance under fenders...

Rear mounting flange removed and pan halves yet to be cut out ready for chequer plate floor and stiffening. Sides of body yet to be cut and modified for seat clearance. Bit of fibreglassing to do here, but not too much damage...

Nah, Living back up in sunny Queensland again, since Christmas.

It's getting air conditioning, new top, new exhaust, front and rear electrically adjustable suspention, new dash with Bertone VDO instuments, side bars, fuel injection, electronic ignition, new two tone grey interior, molded front and rear bumpers, new electrics, electric mirrors, new roll bar, back seat... I have most of the bits arranged around the buggy now doing trial fittups and redesigning what's there so everything fits together nicely. Surprisingly it's all cost me bugger all.

Just did the front bumper this morning, and cut the lower section away from the front of the buggy to accomodate it properly. This also drops the weight a little, but not by much. Gotta put the steel framing behind it now. There'll be an aluminium chequerplate bash plate mated between the lower bumper edge and the front beam to finish it off.

And the rear bumper, taken from a new Pajero, of all things. Shortened by 10 inches, and taillights will mount behind those neat vents. This dose away with the need for big mudflaps and rear cage, and the little whale tail cover will fit flush with it (this houses the airconditioner condenser).

Actually the front bumper was cut out of a current model Jackaroo one. Only half of the original form remains. It's good when you can afford to trash $600 bumpers just to get what you want...LOL

Wheels? I'm sticking with the smooth custom steel wheels, but thinking of some custom fibreglass hubcaps to replace the standard ones and make them look more updated. I'll be popping the Goodyear Eagle ST's back on for the street and am welding up a spare pair of rims to put the Armstrong 30 inch 11x15R off-road tyres on.

Trying the rear bumper for size. (Tail lights are only photoshopped for now).

Hey yeah that's really cool. There's one thing I don't get. Air conditioning. I do live in melbourne, but still, how's it work in a buggy? Sorry if that's a real stupid question ("the only stupid question is one that's not asked").

Does seem like there exist a lot of buggies up north; don't know why, just seems like it. Warm enough to be open topped maybe?

Real nice work Vet.

More pics coming soon. Yet more mods include latest model Hyundai Excel head lights, latest Camry indicaters (all molded into front edge of fenders). The dash will now be fully digital with head-up display on windshield. All indicator, tail light and other lighting will be now super bright LED units where normal globes were used except for headlights, which will now use 4X 50mm dicroic and 4X 30mm dicroic all mounted inside the Hyundai lenses.

Oh, and airconditioning will funtion quite nicely with the soft top up or the custom fibreglass top installed that I'm making up for it.

Pics will follow shortly...
