Is this a sh!t day or what? I need some sympathy here

Driving Froggy (the green split) to the freight company for it to go to Ross in Qld. The car has been unregistered for the last 10 years. I got a permit but expired last week. Silly me, I moved the back plate from the KG to the Splitty to make it less obvious. One turn and less then 100m before the frieght company depot, a policy bike comes in the opposite direction. He pulls me over because the front number plate is missing. Then he see that the rego sticker say expire 1992! He calmly mentions its an offense to drive an unregistered car and there will be a fine. Then he notice the plate are different from the sticker. I explain to him my silly mistake and he gets really pissed off at this stage. He say driving an unregistered car is an traffic offence but moving plates from one car to another is fraud. There will be a court case, lose of license for 1 year and minimum of $1,200. F&^k, f*&k, f^%k. After taking sweet to him for 15 mintues, he takes a pic of the van with the KG number plates on it but say that he won't take the plates swapping any further (I hope he doesn't). He writes me the fine, $511

I still have 2003 sticker on my kombi. Rego is due in 3 weeks so for a year I havent had the right sticker on. Only realised a month ago when my daughter told me, but cant find the current one. It must be paid cos I have just got the renewal.

$500 is a lot of money but I think you should look on the bright side. Youve saved minimum $700 in fines (not to mention solicitor fees) plus your licence.

But I agree its a shit day! I just got my marks for this session. Prior to exams I was averaging 94% for assignments. I ended up with 2 marks of 79% and one of 51% meaning for that exam I only got 34%. Which is kinda what I was expecting but it still doesnt make me feel better seeing it in print. Exams suck.

Sorry to hear that Raf.

That is why I usually get cars towed when I need them moved around. Usually $50-60 and no hassles. I have tow opertators I trust and I can leave the money and key on the sunvisor at start location and be confident it will arrive at destination no worries. I don't need to be there.

I suppose the freight co. needed you to be there to sign the bus in.

I remember me and my Dad driving to get my roadworthy done with no plates and only that permit from the mechanical and passing three police cars waving to all of them and none of them pick us up! Just bad luck mate. I know with my mum's dub we stole the old unregistered plates that came with my baja and wacked in on that to drive it home from the coast. Same with out 4X4 it was registered as a VW baja for a few hours.:thumb

had a similar experience but not as bad a few years ago like that ,bought an escort for $80 to sell to a bloke for a rally car .Towing it home the old bill pulls us over for towing an unregistered vehicle $420 later my venture into selling cars was -$350 so lesson learned its either tow truck or trailer from then on:(

Question; If your not going to hear any more about the plates, why did he obtain photographic evidence??
I'll be surprised if you don't get a summons.

There is actually less bullshit involved in running a car without plates, than with fake plates. As you've said, thats fraud.
Last time a mate of mine got done it was called "with intent to deceive", & it's the intent bit they string you up on.

As for sympathy.........forget it.
What you did was illegal, & I'm willing to wager that you knew. Getting caught comes under the heading of shit happens.

But as I said, unless this cop was a kombi nut, I'd be very dubious about him taking happy snaps........:(

Ha, yeah you deserve the fine, I did it once and got done for defrauding the commonwealth, and thats no longer a traffic offence but criminal, ah well off yor record in 10 years i think...as was walking across the harbour bridge in the middle of the nite, the magistrate didnt buy "i didnt know you couldnt do that", actually probably would have got away with no plates, generally they're pretty good. Especially if you had a recent permit...

:( without sounding a party pooper, I agree with spook, it is illegal. If you can't afford the insurance day pass thingy chances are you can't afford to pay the huge sum of money it would cost for rehab etc should u (heaven forbid) injure or maime someone. CTP is compulsory for a reason. I know if some uninsured fool smacked into me at the moment I certainly couldn't afford a wheelchair let alone the legal bill. This goes both ways though, what if you have a passenger/family member harmed? sorry, but personally each time I have moved anything I have taken out the day pass. I would rather pay the 30-40 bucks than take the risk, I don't give a toss bout the police part, moreso how one little error in judgent, or the saving of bucks can affect someone else. :)

For the guys who are kicking me when I am down, thank you NOT. A geniune thank you for the rest. It was simply a moment of bad judgement. I had every intention to get a permit the day before but being it was the end of the financial year, things got very busy and I left work after 7pm.
I just spent half an hour find the policy officer's phone number and I called him. I told him that it was simply a moment of lapsed judgement and I learnt a lesson the hard way. I paid the fine within 1/2hr from getting it. He said he was glad to hear that and the matter is closed. No further action will be taken. So Spook, sorry to spoil your part but looks like I won't be getting a summons.
I am glad its over. I am getting over it now.

sorry karmannghia was not meaning to kick you, and thanyou for sharing it with everyone, it is a lesson you have learnt from, and others should heed the warning. :) I was just pointing out an area not highlighted, whilst fines suck and we can be tempted to take the risk, the outcome could be worse. :) as i said, please don't take my post as a direct attack upon you. If you'd been in an accident and it was someone else's fault, you may as well have bent over with lubricant in your A, and a big sign saying "F**K me I'm stupid". It really sucks, but it could have been SO MUCH WORSE!

We also don't want policepersons out there with grudges against Dubs. Pulling them over all over the show for the onceover "with extreme prejudice".
Use your noodle. How much would a car trailer rental have cost you dude? Less than $500 bucks I bet. It's always a case of risk versus benefit.

I can sympathise though. I'm not really made to fit in with all these laws and regulations either. Especially tax ones. I turn into an illiterate immediately.

I dont think anyone was kicking you while you were down, simply stating that you knew you were breaking the law and got caught, take it on the chin...ive got no sympathy for those done for doing the wrong thing, had you been unfairly done by then bring on the sympathy...

As for this comment...

Hmmm. yeah I gotta admit I don't disclose any previous driving infringements to anyone except my insurance co.

I will say though I did get done by a laser gun about 6 years ago and it was XXXkph in regional NSW. I only say this because I could read the speedo at exactly XXXkph and I was proud of the accuracy of my speedo.

Oh come on. How many of us don't bend the rules on occasion? It's just those who take the risk with other peoples lives that bother me.

Drink drivers in particular are useless turds with ego problems. Young guys with "urban" street speed problems are also worth a kick. But you cant just black and white people. There are probably a bunch of useful humans who do both of those things.

How come James Bond gets away with all the time Raf?

If its any consolation the fine is $1000 to drive an unregistered car in NSW! My brother in law was done for this last year on a car where the rego had expired 2 weeks earlier!

Cheers

Frenzix - just jump over the zone next time "Dukes of Hazard" style. You'll find that the undercarriage damage is less messy than picking out teeth and schoolbooks from your damaged front fenders.

I dont think i black and whited anyone...78 in a 50 zone, well done to the cops, good work, the dude needs some remedial work in the difference between 50 and 78... (55, 60, maybe even 65, but almost 30ks over, thats not bad luck thats stupidity) And when I do the wrong thing i will take responsibility for it, not try and shift it onto someone else...

Im not a cop and havent always had easy dealings with them but to say that "cops are really bad things" well they're not actually things, they are people and they are trying to do a job which more often than not involves them dealing with nobs, i wouldnt want to do it...

Anyway, my rant for the day...gotta go and finish the singlecab so i can drive it down to get registered...hope I dont get caught $1000, rather put that into the car than the govs pocket

Didn't say that you did. Was more reflective than anything. I can just get all soapboxey sometimes... Thought it may take some of the harshness out of calling "drunkard drivers" names.

I agree with what your saying too. I just choose to express it with (attempted) humor. Parent's blame the schools for Kid's behaviour and Schools blame the family. It's all adult's taking no responsibility. What a cop out!

Speaking of cop's... I've known good cops who've believed in the job, and I've known many more who use the badge as a privelige and do more nasty things than most other people. Just check out the news lately. People with small, selfish "character's" and a bit of power are a problem for everybody. Oh geez, stop me before I start becoming an anthropologist...
