yes - ish.

IF hooked to a 009 they can have problems.

Personally i like the 30 Pict with adapter base. Easier to tune.

The 009 plus 34PICT3 carby problem can be fixed by running a richer mixture with the accelerator pump...
A simple adjustment...

ive used the webber of a 6 cylinder cortina and a webber copy off the lada niva. the lada webber copy is the same as the old style webber but has the adjustments on the front instead of the back as it is on the cortina webber. it is also is a vacuum secondary compared to a mechanical secondary. they use a Borg-Warner air cleaner which is the rectangle shaped one. webber has redesigned this carb so that the new ones are vacuum secondary and they have an auto choke.

They say You can fix the 34pict3 flatspot by adjusting the accellerator pump linkage... so that MORE fuel is pumped in every time You push down on the throttle...
or You could use an earlier model SOLEX carby 31PICT or 32PICT etc.. without any problems...
The problem is caused by the Mechanical advance of the Bosch 009 distributor... the original VW Vacuum + mechanical advance dizzy worked fine.. as the vacuum adjusts the timing when You push down on the throttle... with the 009 it depends on Centrifugal force... which is hard to get if the engine hasn't started to rev... yet... catch 33.... You Do NEED vacuum advance... they can still be bought in the US for around $100US...
the Brazillian 009s are worse so I'm told... from the US...

I'd try a Solex 30 - 31 or 32 PICT Neil....

My Son just bought Me a single throat weber carby in very good condition... I don't know anything about it... but it works great.... One of the locals runs a weber on one of his beetles.. just bolts on...
best of luck

Lee

is that a small single barrel webber say about the same size of a 30 pic that one of the locals run cause my old mans got 2 and we can not find the model so we can rebuild it.
i agree on the 30/31 pict is the way to go as it uses an adaptor plate on to the stock manifold.

at least know what it is...

Sounds like the Weber on my 1600tp.

Bolts straight on, but I have no idea what model it is, so if some one does find info I'd be interested

Cheers

Use the 34 pict 3 with a SVDA dizzy (thats the vacuum advance AND mech advance one, ie standard)

If using the oo9

solder up the hole in the throttle plate, put a bigger main jet (I used a 150 from memory) and tweak the accelerator pump a bit. This uses lots more juice and doesnt run as well as a good condition vacuum dizzy.

Ive never yet seen a successful weber conversion that is as driveable as the standard bits in good order. Doesnt mean it cant be done but why reinvent the wheel.

Otherwise go for Fuel Injection;)

i still prefer the twin barrel progressive over the stock 34 pict 3 and i can pull up a heap of data from the time of release of the 72 sbug that there is a problem with the carb. but ive also driven one with a 30/31 pic and its much better than stock. id love to try this other webber i have but need a rebuild kit first.

My weber has a square metal plate on top with nothing written on it...
Who wants to use More fuel???
My Son has a two barrel Bugspray Holley that uses lots more fuel than a standard carby... But it DOES Go......

most of the different carbies use a tad more fuel than stock but if you are changing it its for a reason. and in this case on some 34 pict 3s its a untunable flat spot but who cares go the webber cause when youre over taking up a hill in a 1600 its worth it

Now that does sound Great BARLS....

I suppose VW used the solex as 1: economy 2: performance

where with the others they changed the numbers around...
