Have a chat to Alex Holzl's dad Richard @ V Force.
If you can search for a few of Alex's posts you will see Deiter's car - a snot green 72.
There is LOTS you can do
Struts first
select a decent set of wheels
brakes
Give him a call and get a package set up
Also have a read in the Club Vee Dub profiles on Jak and Steve C's cars.
They are both 1302's and set up in a similar way - ie adjustable struts etc etc
Futue te ipsum!!!

what kind of booster did you use? I've considered one in the past but a lot of people have said that its unecessary for a 700/800kg car

Hi
He wanted you to put booster on? Thats a strange way to do things, why not rear disks? With that line of thinking (booster) you still have the same
brakes underneath, no improvement just less effort.
Go with the skinny struts, best thing you can do to a S or L bug, also fit urathane bushings to the front end with an adjustable caster bar.

Hi
You also need to shorten the struts and fit shorter shocks. Otherwise when you lower it you run out of travel.

Ford Falcon rear discs are pretty cheap and easy to fit (not much modification) for rear discs. They're good cos they are meant to stop a 1500kg car

ok dreging up this one again with the gearbox i also want to cruise at lower speeds so would changing to a 3.88 R&P from a 4.25 be the best way of
doing this. also where would i get a heavy duty side plate as well

Hi
Best way to get a 3.88 is buy a 3.88 box, but 4th gear still works out about the same RPM v speed. You need to to change gear sets to get what you
want, can get pricey.
Side plates, coming from the leading high performance VW gearbox builder in Australia (not me), the late model stock ones are better that the heavy
duty ones.

use the later 3.88 one. who in oz in building boxes steve cause i have no idea

Hi
In the Sydney area there only people I trust, Shimmo at Dunhams in the Gong or Henry, who built my box.
The 1303 side plates have extra ribbing in them, its best to just find a good 3.88 box.
