Looking good. Did you remove the door handles? I can't tell from the photo.
Also it looks like you've filled in the side holes, or is it just back masked?

It is always nice to get that first coat of primer on. It makes a world of difference to have one solid colour all over rather than patches of
filler/primer/orginal paint etc etc.

I have a late fasty, and it has holes for the side indicators. That's what I meant. But I also didn't know that notches didn't have
side intakes in the rear guards.
I learn something new every day!

Check out my ugly holes! They're just in front of the door and in this shot, just behind the fuel door, and similarly on the other side. Right
now, there's no tape on them, so there's just a big ugly gap.
Don't worry, I have plans for them...

If you have metal (and not bog there) then you are Correct to have none.
Side indicators are a later thing I reckon.
Anyway, you've given me fresh impetus. I'm getting the resto underway tomorrow by stripping my baby down and then going to town with my
orbital sander.

Don't worry, I have a small 1 litre pot of paint stripper and a 500 ml pot of etcher for a test of the final paint removal. I didn't buy too
much in case it didn't work as well as I'd like. And by comparison to paint and primer, this stuff is cheap.
I am going to test how it looks and feels first and then decide if I want to reassemble the trim and drive it to the sandblasting shop for the last
bit of bare metalness before filling and priming. I could also be talked into getting myself a sandblaster head for the compressor I'll need for
the painting if I'm going for a non-two pack finish.
But hearing the stories of never ending media being *everywhere* I don't really think sandblasting in my garage is such a good idea. I can easily
get good quality drop sheets, but...

Hey Adam,
No need. Rub it with 800 wet & dry if you going to paint it again. 800 will get the peel down faster and it wont be too fine for good adhesion
for your next coats. Try not too get too much peel as this only makes the rub down process longer and harder. Also, dont rush, it takes time for the
paint too settle and "sink back", all the solvents also take time too evaporate out of the paint.
Sound like you are doing fine, I am a qualified painter/panelbeater but my first respray ( a HQ panelvan when I was 16) was a shocker. Now lets never
speak of that again.
Cheers.:thumb

Its hard for me too tell without seeing the first coat go on etc, how heavy it was , that sort of thing. If you only plan on giving it three coats
then there is not enough paint to cut it back. If I was painting the notch, I would probably givin it about 7 complete coats around the car, waiting a
short time between coats which would have used aroung 3 - 3 1/2 litres of paint, then let it sit a few days then cut it back, compound & polish.
The general idea is 7 coats on then when you cut it , it takes about 3 off leaving 4 - 5 on. This leaves easily enough paint but not too thick.
But as I said i didn't see the 1st coat go down. If you have used a fair bit of paint allready the first coat must be fairly thick. If this is
the case I would give it a light scuff with 800 before the next coats. Just knock the top off it. When colour sanding, after giving it a rub wipe the
water straight off with a rubber bog applicator, then you will clearly see what has been rubbed ( the low spot will still have a shine ). Also,
another tip when using wet and dry, soak the paper in the water 15 min before using it. This softens the paper and reduces grooves left by any paper
edges. Man, now I have started I could bullsh#t here for ages.
Good luck,
Damien.

Lookin good Adz
As you can tell I don't get into the Tech section nearly as much as I should. I plan to paint the Dog sometime but I'm sure it will be a pit
rougher than what your up to for sure. Might wait and see it it get any Grafitti on it from my first days laying down the law at my new school.
I'm sure there will be some kid out there who would be quite happy to give me a free spray job. Lets hope s/he chooses a good colour and does a
good job.
I love the red mate. Its hard to see well but looks very good all the same. I will have to kep coming back in here now and see how your progress is
going. Thanks for sharing - keep up the good work!
