Barndoors I have owned, with pics.

G'day,
A few pics of bardoors I've had over the years.
The first one I got in 1978 off a farm in north central Vic and was still owned by the original owners family and was the 10th VW sold by Innes Motors in Bendigo and had been around Australia twice. It still had 5 16" wheels with it.
The second one I picked up 2 weeks later having remembered seeing it when I was going to Highschool in the early 60s, it was a Panel owned by a painter in Bendigo so I tracked him down and he still had it at his brothers' farm near Bendigo and I could have it if I wanted to go and get it. After having them for 13 years, sold them in '91 to a couple of Kombi enthusiasts in Melbourne.
Cheers, Ian.

Third one I found in the bush near Bendigo 3 years ago, it was a Singlecab and totaly wrecked but I brought it home anyway. It originaly had safari screens but they were missing. It was sold to one of the guys above early this year.

Fourth one I found 2 years ago in a 10' deep gully in Bendigo where it had been for more than 28 years, it is now being restored by an enthusiast in Melbourne.
Cheers, Ian.

My favourite was the panel!

Man that thing was an effort to get out, it took like a full day.
the new owners already got it rollin, be good to see it back on the road!

Not to mention Barny, with the ultra rare barndoor only safari's!!

You the man!

when it comes to finding Barneys,if you have found this many of these,I'd say you've found lots of normal splitscreens too. Thanks for the pics and info to go with them.

He's got the nose...

Barney was pretty good for a barney, certainly in better nick than
Leo the 62 twin cab (who’s ten years younger than Barney but obviously
had a harder life – bit like me and Ian really…I’m younger but
look far more worn than he does….).

But I digress – while good, Barney does need some resto work…

http://www.splitbusaustralia.com/barnbody5.jpg

I did get a bit done on Barney before getting distracted by Leo’s resurrection. Here he is today.

http://www.splitbusaustralia.com/barney_1.jpg

I was going to post a link to Barney’s resto pics but most don’t show now because I’ve
changed servers. I’ll write up a summary of the work done so far and post to
member’s rides….

Regards

Hey Blue ute!

I'm trying to find out where this ute went to pictured below.
Did you swap 2 vans + cash to get your ute.If so I finally found out where it went and to a good home at that.
