bull bars 4 a 75 kombi, advice needed
ever since my old bull bar fell off at the coles car park one day, i have been looking for another one. My original was one of those"tubes" that
came from under the chassis and then another "tube" inserted into that to protect(?) the front. This was all hung together with a bolt, rusted and
fell off.
I have been looking for a replacement and since decided on either one of those that "bolts" onto where the front bumper goes or a one piece that
fits from under the chassis.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages in either? and what stress lines etc should ii look out for if i source one from a junk yard etc. how much is a
good price too?
thanx in advance for your help folks.
ps, anyone got one for sale?:thumb
i plan to live forever.....so far so good.

Ned
Has it rained yet LOL
On my 75 20 odd years ago I built it myself and it had 4 uprights from underneath (pipe H/duty on uprights only)
and made brackets to weld on to chassis and the pipe
These where bolted together (2 per upright)
This sounds kind of excesive but it used to hold up to big roos on the way home from the pub Nygan to home 3/4 hour drive
Too many accidents happen when you swurve to miss livestock
My appoligies if I have affended any animal rights people

Rain?...hang on, i need a dictionary first...oh rain!.......um, no, not yet
re animals,
yes, you don't have time to swerve, sometimes there is nowhere TO swerve. whilst "Ned" doesn't exactly break land and speed records, these things,
mostly wombats, just run at ya, no fear (no brain....no wombat.....sorry but its a real fact of life here, anything up to 10 between my place and
bega, mostly hit by trucks)
with the drought there are also roos/wallaby's and the occasional desparate cow wandering aimlessly along the side of the rd. The last one i hit,
concertinered my '74 subaru, made parking in tight spots a whole lot easier! and all this on the sth coast, which is comparatively rare
i plan to live forever.....so far so good.

i am working on mounting a bar from a vanagon at the moment. mount sections just seem to need to be reversed in order to fit up to the bay chassis
rails, and to balance the extreme weight i will be adding mounts at the front that attach to the bolts that hold the bumper on as well.

whoa, thats an elephant bar!
baybuscamperkid,
let me know if it was successful/difficult etc cause i think it's a vanagon bar that i was thinking of when i said it also fits under the chasis, but
is a one piece, not the tube deal.

I hate saying this but back in those days you where allowed to run exhaust down the side of car but ( utes would have a huge pipe down the side) the
exit had to be a certain distance from door (i think)
Legal now?
I dont know sorry
awesome sound though
