They technically aren't spiders.
They are also a bit smaller than they area from that camera angle. They are about the size of a dinner plate.
The yanks are stupid as usual. They pose no threat to large mamals like humans.
They "chase" people only because they are sensitive to direct sunlight and chase people to stay in their shadow...
I can understand the fear tho - the buggers can run at almost 10mph

I've just spent 6 month in Iraq and I can tell you, I'm bloody glad I never came across these. Then again I wasn't sleeping in the dirt with the
rest of the grunts. I heard some cool stories about spider and scorpian fights though.

if you look in the top right of the pic you can see the guys palm of his hand, so look at the spider size relative to that. So it's bigger than the
spiders we get here, but not by huge amounts. And as matt said, not technically spiders. just eight legged freaks.
