keeps accelerating when im not!!
hiya
been having a weird and intermittent problem with the bug over the past week.
i just changed the accelerator cable with a new one that has those little brass bits near the clip that fits on the lever and goes into the tube (my
previous cables didnt have this bit)... anyway...
ever since i have installed this, the car sometimes keep accelerating when im not on the pedal, and the only way to stop it is to stick on the brake
and push in the clutch, and even that only works sometimes. Ive also noticed that when i start it sometimes that the engine revs really high!
i had to parallel park today while it was happening and it made things amazingly difficult! :cry
could this just be the little brass bits on the cable getting stuck in the tube? when i pump the accelerator it doesnt seem to be getting stuck
anywhere.
anyone got any ideas on what it could be and what i could check out?

check the throttle lever is actually easing off. Mine has a spring which returns it back to idle.. make sure nothing is catching, which will keep the
idel open. Also make sure you haven't overtightened the cable,,, had these problems myself several times.. scary especially when in traffic. :P |

the cable is probably over tight. I sometimes tighten the cable up on the bug for racing so it won't stall as easy after fast stopping and will rev
at 1200rpm . also make sure the tube trhough the shroud is connected properly to the flexi tube.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

This happened to my kombi last Monday and my wife ended up having to drive it into a traffic light rather than a person (
Just got a call from the insurance companies garage today saying its a right off was only a dent in the front and the floor panel (think the steering box stopped it going any further and is now leaking too). So
there'll probably be a nice easy resto coming up at the auctions soon... at least the missus was OK
I'd say get it fixed ASAP to be on the safe side.

They're going to let me know when the auction is so I can go along and bid against everyone else :/ I mean if I wasn't too bothered about cosmetics
I could just knock the ding in the front out and pop a new bumper on and a new steering box is about $300?
Gutting thing is the van was bought for $7500 about 2 months ago and has been off the road since then as I was having problems getting it started.
Only had it going for one weekend before the accident :/ I could only get it insured for $6000 as I'm not an Australian resident and none of the
agreed value places would touch me on top of that I'll lose the remaining
10 months of my insurance that I had payed up and have to pay out the $450 excess so I'll be over $2k out of pocket and would have only driven the
van from Labrador to Sydney... Hopefully it will go cheap in the auction otherwise its probably not worth my while buying it back. :cry
Any Ideas as to what sort of prices V-Dubs go for at auction?

It was completely original, no rust or panels welded in anywhere. Paint work is very tidy and all he panels (were) very straight. The interior is all
original and in great condition. Totaly un-modified. Engine had new heads on and just needed a tune up. Steering box is leaking now and I think the
clutch needs adjusting... Imagine a kombi thats been driven around by a little old lady for years and you'll get an idea of the sort of condition
If it cost me $7500 (and I wouldn't consider that would be paying over
the odds for it) would it go for much less than this *shrugs*

Yeah shannons wouldn't insure me on a UK license as Im only here on a 4 year working Visa (for now I love it so much I don't wanna go back) and the RTA advised me that there was no need to change my license as I'm only a
temporary resident. Ended up going with NRMA. Sorta jinxed myself in this thread here too http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=23883#pid187384 8th post down.

I had the 'accelerates when I'm not' in my kombi earlier this year. Fortunately I was on the open road so it was a bit more like a cruise control
than a problem.
It was sticking in the tube that runs along the floor between the pedal and where the rod connects to the cable. A liberal application of wd40 and
it's been ok ever since!
