73 Kombi Reverse Lights

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me IF a 73 Kombi had functioning reverse lights. there is the clear lense in the rear lights which is for reverse BUT would they have been operating or should they operate on selection of reverse gear.
thanks
Bert

They only operate when you're in reverse AND the ignition is on. There is also an inline fuse in the engine bay that may have blown, or like in mine had corroded contacts that stopped it working.

Apparently there is also a switch and if the gear lever is not engaged fully then the contact is not activated and of course the lights no come on.

Oh good ya got it.

My reverse lights sometimes come on even when the reverse gear isn't properly engaged. I know this because reverse is hard to get in and I discovered that I couldn't use the light as an indicator (ie - an indicator of whether the car was in gear or not, not a turn signal indicator). Gotta try to move; grinding noise, try again!

Mine's a '74.

Cheers.
