Slots cut in the front panel. Smeared with bog and in the process of being rubbed back and sprayed..the smear covers the little inperfections caused by the grinder. Alfa 33 radiator tucked in behind with 2x 10 inch thermos. Aluminim sheeting covering with a rubber edged raised section that seals off the area when the bonnet is closed. The rear has been chopped away behind the radiator so air can be sucked through...thus the sealed boot space.

Matt

Good work- I like the slots in the front apron- much more subtle than a huge hole!

How tight is the fit? I thought Wes and Seagull etc mentioned the ej20t was too long to fit in the Beetle engine bay? Are you shifting the gearbox forward at all?

Any width issues with those quad cams?

I guess the firewall re-fabrication is for the inlet? I thought some people were turning the inlet around? Or was this only on the NA versions.

Cheers
Jeremy

Does the radiator have an air blead line for the top of the tank ?? you will need to run that to you fill pot on the WRX donk .

I think the lads would like to see the mounts for the gear box as this moves the unit forward , I would like to see as well as to copy them :) I can make them :) :) :)

Hey Jak,

I will forgive you as you have not yet met me!
Post the recent pics of you car.....who is going to tell them you or I????????? How did today go?

The gearbox in the car is an L bug box with welded 3rd and 4th gears and a superdiff.

The front mount is a berg one which moves the box 2 inches forward. I will try and get a pic....

The ej20t fits....had it in last week with no flywheel or clutch to fabricate the piping to intercooler.

The fire wall was removed for the turbo and exhaust and also the throttle body and intercooler piping which will do a 180 degree turn back and up where the sti cooler will sit in between the deck hinges and stand offs...with shrouding around it. To its left will sit the ram pod in a aluminium box with a fresh air pipe maybe out the side of the deck.

There was more cutting to get the engine in....just behind the bumper brackets is where the cam covers sit. I am probably going to chop the last two gaurd bolts off and make a bolt on frame with the rear apron attatched which the gaurds will attatch to as usual. Will be done next week.

Got a IHI vf24 ball bearing turbo yesterday(sti upgrade turbo) from the states...will be here monday...then back in she goes, wire up the microtech and away we go..

Will post pics as soon as possible.......

Hi Matt

Looking good.

Drill a really small hole in your thermostat, this will aid in getting rid of airlocks. I did this on my WBX and I could fill it at the back and it would fill the whole system no worries, no need for an air bleed on the radiator then, bit hard to fit anyway when the motor is at one end and the radiator is a the other end of the car . Just make sure your fill point is higher than the radiator and use a an overflow bottle, this will help expell any air after the 1st few warm ups cool downs.

Matt

Thanks for the "fit" description - fantastic

Sounds great. I assume the new turbo ups the power output some more... 206kW not enough :thumb

Keep us updated

Cheers

Hi All and Jak,

Got a mig last night and a heap of steel yesterday, so will be fabricating the rear subframe and new mountng points for the gaurds etc....

have to wait for the new turbo before I can put the motor is, as it sits at the back...bugger.

This magician also made me a swirl pot and fuel filter....guess who?????? Whick looks awesome.I will post a pic, and that can go on also.

Oh, the boys want to rub it back and paint it this week as we have to blow in lots of little bits here and there, my mate wants to just paintthe whole thing! COLOUR???????
I was thinking black....what do the people say?

Hi

The reason for this is to allow the water to flow to both sides of the thermostat when filling and before starting the motor, otherwise your trying to fill the motor and expell air pockets behind the thermostat via the back door. The small hole has no affect when the motor is running. Some OEM (not VW) thermostats have a small ball valve to achieve this.
