Prise the springplates off the bottom stop...BE CAREFUL, there is a lot of force and it will shoot downwards, KEEP FINGERS WELL CLEAR, once it comes to a rest scribe a mark along the top of the springplate onto the shock tower section so you can line up the angle when you refit it all.

Sorry m8, I dont really know what you mean, call me a thicky if you will but do I just try and move the springplates outwards? Then they will try to shoot downwards, then I mark em? Shouldnt I mark em now?

No, because they are resting hard against theri bottom stop. Take a look at the bottom edge of th spingplate - it is being prevented from drooping any further by a lip on the chassis. You must prise teh springplate out and over this lip, then scribe a line to tell you where teh springplate angle is while it is 'feee' otherwise, when you put it all back together again, your suspension will be 'out' (too high or low)

Just be carefull. also you will need a 17mm hex socket to get the inner pivot bolt out. I will be around tomorrow morning if you want a hand. give me a call.

If its not to late you should mark the arms and plates with a chisel, so when it goes back the wheel alignment is not that far out……. have a look at the pic :duh

put a chisel mark on the red line;)

OK, everything else is off, except this bolt!!!!

It has been turned so much, I have given up for now, it just seems to be stuck in there.

Many thanks go to Drew (BiX) for his help this morning its def a two person job!

This is the bolt in question, anyone have any ideas on how I can budge it out from there?

Cheers

yep its a 17mm allen hex bolt. Shouldnt be too hard to take out, there is a special tool that you can get which is basically two 17mm nuts inside a spanner.

To disassemble the bearings and stub axle you'll need large circlip pliers as the one that retains the inner ball bearing is held by this. Also lots of hammering with a drift to get the bearings and spacers out.

I have undone the 17mm allen head bolt as much as I can, its not coming out any further, its just spinning in there. It wont come out any further than you can see here. Very hard to move, very tight in there.

some times it helps if you move the arm at the same time as twisting back and forward with v/grips and wd40

Any luck Gibbo.

I found mine was so stuck I spent the day with a hacksaw blade to cut it out... this was with the body still on the Chassis.

So this may be the only other alternative. But at least you'll beable to get comfortable and work above the car.

I cut the head off so that the arm would pull out. Basically the inner (steel ring) part of the bush rusted itself to the bolt.

Good luck
Jeremy

As somebody said-grab the head with a big pair of visegrips and hit the visegrips while turning it back and forth. It's obviously not rusted into the bush because it has unscrewed that far-it must have a bit of a lip on it where it rubs against the big galvanised washer and won't come thru the pivot box hole-when in doubt-CRC and bash the shit out of it.If you don't have a big set- get a grip inside the hex on the head with a smaller set and still hit it while trying to turn it.Good luck.
