help with a manifold question


hey all, can anyone one tell me what the manifolds on these carbi's are for? cus i have a pair sitting in a box of spare crap for my vw,...but i dont know what those litttle tubes at the back are for...cus the manifolds on my t3 now dont have these tubes:duh

twin port 1600 t1 motor. the little tubes are the balance tubes. i didnt see the link mate

so....whats the difference between the 1600 twin port that i got in my car and the 1600 twin port that uses those manifolds?

no idea mate but it may have some thing to do with the clearance in the engine bay of a type 3

These ones use a plastic tee piece to join the 2 holes together into one single cross line.

the auto Type 3s havea another take off tube in the mioddle of teh cross tube that attached to the Auto vacuum modulator that tells the auto when to change gear with the correct amount of suction on the modulator


These are the late Type 3 carbies the little plastic tubes tend to get brittle n are hard to find good ones. They attach with a bit of flex cotton covered rubber flex tube

the earlier twin mainfolds only had 1 vacuum take of port, i can only presume that VW made them a twin port balance line in order to get more suction to operate the Auto modulator and standardised it and the mainfolds on all models.
