dave,
I have an early shifter (with pin) and floor
plate. U2U me your address again (I'll have it but it'll
save me looking) and I should be able to get it
away to you this Friday.
If it doesn't help with the slipping out
revisit the suspension bracket and/or nylon bush underneath
(both support the front shift rod)....

Hi Rob
I found out mine doesnt have the pin, as there is no place fo it in the holder(tube underneath) I have also realsied that I was using a later floor
plate, thanks for the offer, but I will try just putting the proper floor plate in, I think that was the problem.
Cheers

OK,
Then somebody has changed the front shifter rod. They
not only differ in being pinned or pinless but are also
slightly different lengths......
Is the 'bucket' on the shifter rod sitting directly under the
hole in the floor with transmission in neutral with the
front shifter rod you have..
(although probably worth worrying about this if changing
the floor plate doesn't solve it)
?????????????????

hmmm...crappy pic of front shift rods from
parts manual.

You should have the front shift rod on the upper right
(with underhanging bracket etc etc) and with the shifter actually having the pin...
Sounds like you have the later front shift rod. They are
different lengths cos they moved the shifter position slightly
forward at the same time the handbrake lever was moved
forward..
HARD to find the early front shift rod and bottom plate with
bracket intact.
