range rover V8 into a kombi?
hey
anyone heard opf this being done??? my mums friends husband did one not so long ago but was wondering if anyone has any info on it??

The engine blocks are all aluminium alloy... One Light V8..!!
I have seen one in a bay window ute... tray top...
Nothing is impossible... just depends on whether You have enough money....

I have seen a number done here in QLD (P76 motor that is).
You need to remove the rear panel behind the fan to fit them in (cut body work). You also need to be careful with radiator placement and ducting to
prevent over heating.
It's also a good idea to use a 2L GB and fit big wheels to keep the revs down. 3600rpm at 100kph is screaming for a V8.
The thing I always worry about is making a fast kombi stop and steer! Scary!!! (Oh, most states require disc rear brakes also!)

braking in NSW is not a problem standard brakes, BTW they stop fine never had any problems with the brakes. only other problem is when you nail it
going around a corner , the front wheels tend to leave the ground.

hey
mmmmmm all very interesting you have any data sheets on the P76 motor wacked??? just hp ratings etc??
what are the things to look out for when purchasing the motors obviously the aluminum block would be prone to cracks etc???
also what is comment on the big wheels thing wacked that andy said?? i have 215/70/16 wheels at the moment but am going down to 205/55/16 soon?
do you have any trouble with sump clearance when the bus is dumped?

no accurate data on the motor, but mine made about 150 rear wheel HP with 1 dead plug and lead, cracked distributor cap never got it back on the dyno
after it was fixed I sold it, the reason being is if you want a little more poke out of a Leyland you gotta spend up big, others will tell you
that’s not the case, for example if you want to put a 4BBL carby on you have to get specially made as these motors only came out with a 2BBL carby
and the parts are getting hard to find also.
I encountered no trouble with sump clearance and mine was low at the rear still had a little in it too once I notched the spring plates. as you can
see in the pic below
the thing with the rear wheels in relation to gearing this is from my experience, I noticed the bigger in overall diameter the wheels are the lower
the revs are, when i had the desert duller tiers on (30 inch tall) it cruised at very low rpm (can't tell exact figures had no rev counter at the
time) but once I put the 16's on with 215, 50 series tiers the revs jumped up not too much but still it was noticeable, I’m going larger profile
tiers on the back and lowering it a bit more (going for the tuff rear look)
