i'd say kind of. It depends on the output of the system, some head units are putting out 45w a channel so thats a lot of heat. I know the alloy
disipates heat quite well but you may want to consider cooling. A nice little fan from an old laptop or similar or just some holes. For $10 buy it
try it, crank it up and measure the temp. good luck |

what would be the idea of installing it inthe alloybox????
most 45wunits ussualllypump out like 15-20w the higher rating is a max power
anextreme amount of heat is created and d you woulddeffinantly need some sort of coolin fan blowing airof the heat sink on the back/ side of the
unit.
and even theni would be very cautious,

Alot of VW people has installed head units in glove boxes, I would think this is worse than an alloy box. Have they had any probs with overheating?
Head units are also commonly mounted in the plastic dashboards of modern cars with no ventilation. I don't think an alloy box would be a problem.
If you are really worried, drill a few holes in the top and bottom to allow a bit of ventilation.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.

glove boxes allow a bit more ventilation, still wouldbe wise to have some vent holes though,
where exactly areyou installing it????
a plastic dash has an awfully large amount of spce behind it, and it also has plenty of ventilation unlike inside a sealed box

I've got mine in a metal box in the back of my manx. dude who put it in has got wires coming out through the middle of the fibreglass. popping it
in the front dash i'd be worried about people nicking it. the lockable box kinda gives me a (false) sense of security....
