super bug, oval guards?
i was wondering if any body has converted their late body beatle front guards to the older type? i know you can change the deck lid by cutting out the
rear apron and replacing it with older type, was thinking the same thing for the front, but will the bonnet still fit? |

yeah nope the superbug tucks under where the earlier bugs point down, basically a front graft would be needed ,struts might be an issue ? . Someone
may have done it.

it would be too much hassle to make new mounts for the macpherson struts and as klaus said the superbugs had a totally different body shape.

You may be able to buy fibreglass Superbug front guards with early lights
as Aero have the early headlamps in late front guards...
or as someone suggested.... grafting the early lights in...
Now that would be a job and a half....
although nothing is impossible....
the 1302S & 1303S superbug front bonnets are entirely different to a standard bugs.... plus much shorter....
again... maybe someone could make them out of fibreglass as fibreglass front bonnets for regular late beetles are available... [at least were]...
Not a lot has been done for the Supers , especially the 1303S as they were the ugly duckling Beetles and were NOT liked by the Beetle fanatics back in
the 70s & 80s...
as they were not true [torsion bar- flat windscreen] Beetles..
Just look at the Last Beetle sold around the world.....
It had the flat windscreen and front torsion bar suspension...

I would just turn it into a empi gtv myself but the guy is serious about his rides and loves em done to the finest detail. So i know hes set on
chopping up an ugly duckling and turn into his vision of a fresh ride.Much better than chopping up a 60s bug i recon..Any information on those aero
gaurds Lee like a website etc..cheers

This has been done to a car in VWMA (not sure which issue), the blue beetle in Melbourne, although it may have been a 68 or 69 with a beam front end.
From memory, to do this you need a 60's bonnet, front aprin, fenders, lights and bumper. Not sure about the suspension though, may need to alter
something there.
