Clutch Problem
the pedal doesn't come all the way back after I push it in making the clutch to slip abit until I pull it out with my toes.
is there a spring that could be stuffed or something else?
the clutch it self was put in only 3 years ago and I only do 6000 KM a year in the bug.
and it only started to play up 2 weeks a go after I changed the master cyclinder.
any help?

The only spring is at the gearbox end of the cable, on the
clutch release shaft operating lever....
It may have broken....
its on the Left hand side of the gearbox, sticking up in the air...[lever] with the clutch cable attached.. on the cross shaft.
although I thought that that spring would just give You clutch pedal free play....
So maybe You have a clutch problem....

Rob,
I hardly think the weight of the pedal would make your clutch slip.
However, check that you have correct "free play" at the pedal 10 to 20mm. Check if the return spring, holding the release shaft - on the side of the
gearbox, where the adjusting nut is, is not broken. Check that the pedals have "free" movement on the pedal shaft - does the clutch pedal move the
brake pedal or visaversa? Does your clutch cable move freely in the clutch tube?
If all of the above are OK, then it's back for a new clutch.

maybe the clutch cable is on the way out and stretched , i would start at the easiest thing first check the cable tension and the lever that 68
autobug mentioned , to me it sounds like the cable is on the way out

I had this problem a few months ago. it tunred out to be numerous issues. 1- the peddle assembly was filled with gunk and very sticky,
2- the clutch cable was also sticky.
3-the hook had startedt o let go at the peddle end.
all combined it was causing th peddle to stay down 20mm and also allow some slippage.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Check the cable first by removing it to see if any wire strands have broken.
also the outer tube should be in good condition and allow the cable to slide easy inside it.
check the return spring on the lever to see if not broken.
have a look at the hook on the pedal cluster to see if its not broken or stretched.
After you have done all this and if you havent found anything wrong ... start on the clutch and pressure plate
