changing fuel filter
ok dudes n dudettes,
the time has come (the walrus said)
and now i need to find out how to change my fuel filter.
twoguns quickly mentioned some things (which i've largely forgotten - sorry mate) like having to blow air thru the jets or something when i change
them...
SO the question is...
can someone tell me the steps to change a fuel filter please?
i've looked in the john muir book but it doesn't mention much about the jets, so i thought i'd come and ask all the guru's on here
thanks all!! |

blowing was only to find out if your fuel was being blocked. all you gotta do to change the filter is undo the old, remove and replace with t he new.
jsut make sure all is nice and tight.

yep... just crawl under the beast and look up near the right side of the gearbox (the side the starter is on..) and you will see a little plastic
cylindrical shape thing that is clear ( most likely...) that has hoses either end.... undo the clamps and pull off the filter but BEWARE! fuel will
then run all over you!! straight out of the tank!! plug the hole with a bolt or your finger and then put in the other filter and connect all up
again.. easy!! |

Dodge
1. what type of car do you have ??? Bug, Kombi ???
2. most cars have 2 filters fitted, the stock one in the bottom of the fuel tank .... n usually an inline one one the fuel line plastic or
similar.... and some fuel pumps have one in the top of them as well. so in could be 3 filters to change or clean.
3. the one in the tank if its not rotted away can be removed and blown out with air n replaced.
also the one in the pump can be do same.
4. the aftermarket plastic on in the fuel line should be chucked n replaced with new or similar.... usually held on with 2 hose clamps.

I own a 1973 Kombi.
I've already looked underneath and I have two plastic filters (as far as I can tell). They are both located underneath the car, near the fuel
tank.
One question.... which size fuel filter do I get? There's a whole heap of sizes at Repco (or wherever) so what do I get??? |

take in the others as samples or get them from vw shops.... i dont think some of the aftermarket guys have listings on those filters though...
but yeah, your best off taking in the old ones as samples if you can manage it... |

Get along to your local VW shop they should know which ones fit, ( or at least they do down here in sydney ) Dont buy them from Repco you will get
the wrong ones.

but yeah dodge, thats pretty much it... your still up in brissie yeah?? micks motors on the northside are great, sell the filters for like $2 each,
but there must be some guys on the southside who you can go to also... it was wynnum you were stayin at yeah?? ask on the forum for other shops, i

ps- dont let the fuel run straight out of the hose into your eyes!! i did that last time and had to stumble blind for 50 meters to the nearest water!
