you need a ball joint breaker.

Dont use a "pickle fork" the tong you belt with a hammer.

Use the device you do up the bolt and it presses the joint out - $40 at mot tool shops

i just got it out with the hammer and a Big screwdriver, and a bit of persistance, nothing bent, but now looks like the spline on the new box is smaller than the old one. same part numbers though. ill go get some more dirt in my eyes and see if that makes any difference..... got it all in place but there is a little movement where the steering box spline slides into the steering coupler with the bolt tight. is this bad?:duh

yes

Have you replaced the coupling/joint/universal????

There IS a different type of these and it has to do with the size of the spline

i didnt "think" there were different boxes - but i was sold the wrong steering joint once. I dont know if it was wrong at one end only or what, it was 15yrs ago.

There is also a different spline size that fits the steering wheel end.
