steering collum on super 71

trying to put steering back together on my 71, looks like the shaft should go futher towards the steering wheel end, as there is a gap (highlighted in picture) near the coupler. is this as far as they go? or if it should be furthe in, what could be stopping it?
:duh

My cars have all been 1303's - but sure they are the same

There is normally a big rubber donut thing that suppots the shaft that sits there.

Do you have this or has it been pushed up the tube like mine was???

I will try and do a search and see if i have some pictures

It supports the shaft

It has been a while since i have pulled mine to pieces

I seem to remember a roller bearing that is in the welded tube and the rubber bit at the end

I will take a pic of a spare set up I have at home.

Remembering it is for a 1303 - but i dont think that matters.

Will also look in some manuals i have

this is the bit i am talking about - this one you can see the marks where it was just shoved up the tube. If you can t see it it cant be in the wrong spot !!!

I have had 3 1303's and not one of them had the bit in the right place.

One had the wrong coupler

All 3 need to be set up right.

Once you have done this and adjusted the box and made sure the coupler has no play you will be amazed how wonderful a super steers.

Then go and drive a 75 with R&P and be amazed again

Save for a set of struts as well

WELL worth the $$$

u2u me if you are having trouble with that piece
