I've just come across some rumours about kombis with them up in QLD but it'd be interesting to see it done in a bug. What are the specs of the
engines? |

I don't think it would fit would it ?????
I have seen it done in sand cars but the motor would be to heavy for a beetle or a buggy. but I have been wrong before
something to look at http://www.type2.com/library/enginem/corvair.htm

Thanks Moose. Seems to be an engine better suited to heavier cars, which makes sense given what it comes out of. |

There was a Bay Kombi in Rockhampton some years ago with a Corvair conversion. The owner had bought it that way..looked very original, like VW had
done it. Was 2.8 litre from mempory and sounded brilliant. I also remember a Manx Buggy being at the Surfer's Drags in the early seventies
that was Corvair powered. It was owned by one of the MacDonald Bros from Melbourne. They now do Hot Rod and drag Car Chassis. Corvair's rotate
anticlockwise so a reground cam is required in a VW.
Once you go flat, you never go back!!!!!!

i bought a bay a few months ago with one in. but I thought it wasn't that great but that was pretty much due to the gearbox set up if u had one with
the right ratios it would be pretty quick, but with a stock 1600 gearbox it just ment u could roll round corners in third, mine had the reverse cam
kit like other blokes, well they have to as the spin the other way i didnt do tihs but. In the end it has been sitting in my shed for the past few
months as i couldnt get rego with out an engineers cert. to much of a tight arse to fork out so just put one of my otha engines in.
apperntly the corvair engine were used in chopper but i have no idea which one.

if you put it in a splitty, you could leave it running anti clockwise.
pull out the reduction hubs to lower it 3", and you're running with 4 forward gears. |
