food for thought...a VW boxer converted to run as a two stroke.

I thought this idea up a while back after seeing an article on a blown orbital s stroke 6 in a bimmer.

they have a set up where the blower pushes the air in (sealed crankcase) and then an injector in the head sprays exactly the right fuel in once the ports are covered up. Very good on emissions and revs beaultifully.

seems to me that it would be easy enough to convert VW barrels over to a two stroke porting system. from there you have a very simple finned head with a plug and a direct fuel injector for each cylinder.

the other thing is that the symetry of th vw boxer means that the front two and back two cylinders come to TDC at the same time. This means two important things,
1. you could use a twin waste spark system for ignition, ala Subaru/alfa boxers.
2. the two firing cylinders balance each other out making for a very smooth motor.

Now obviously the tin ware would need to be rethought, and you need a supercharger to pull air into the motor, but I thought it was a cool idea,

What do people think?

How would the exhaust gases be extracted as the fresh charge is being injected ?
are you saying you would create exhaust ports??
how would you create an adequate scavenging phase in the combustion chamber to remove as much burnt gas as possible?

you could add intake ports on the top and exhaust ports on the bottom of the barrels.

the supercharger creates positive pressure to blow out all the exhaust and add air for the incoming charge. that's how you can run a sealed wet crank case. I believe old kenworths used to have a similar system on a 2 stroke diesel. but you have to have some form of forced induction. blown is best coz the turbo takes time to spool up and makes the emissions less efficient.
