New Beetle on old shell?

Hello

Does anyone know if its possible to put "new bettle" panels onto an old shell? I'm sure I found a site about this a while ago!

Thanks!

I'm sure someone's done it before, just can't find the website for it.

Why not? New beetle look for 1/10th the price :) Not to mention mid-mounted classic motor :)

bet that they wouldn't even come close to fitting. Also the physical dimensions are completely different, as is the profile. I doubt there is any chance of fitting anything.
Fenders are the wrong shape, the hood would be the wrong shape, the roof is completely the wrong shape, the windscreen is completely the wrong shape, the overall profile is probably closer (and the car as a whole) is much much closer to an Audi TT(which is based on a golf).

Also there is the problem that the new beetle is of unibody construction :)(which you couldnt exactly drop a body onto) and it's also effectively a rebodied Gen IV golf which is a front engine design.

Mid mounted classic design??? It's a rear engine design. Besides, the NB was supposed to look like the old one, not the other way round.

yep nice one Jon:kiss

It aint gonna happen ... putting an old beetle on to a turbo new beetle is NOT going to cost you 1/10th the price. Either buy a second hand 'new beetle' for $20k or find a schmick 'old bug' for $5k :kiss

why dont we just spend the money it would cost for a new beetle on our old ones anyway, imagine how sweet it'd look if we did :)
