Spring plate on Kombi nightmare
I am lowering the rear of my early bay and have come to a grinding halt....
I have totally stripped down both sides and successfully adjusted one side.... I cant seen to get the other spring plate or torsion bar to
budge..
Tried everything .... I went to super cheap and bought some crow bars... Still nothing!! anyone got any ideas on how to get the ######## out!!!
help......

Try this quick fix,use a friend or two find a brass drift wedge the crow bars behind the spring plate find a 3-5lb hammer now try and drift the spring
plate off whilst hammering the s..t out of it..hopfully this may break the seized end of the t/bar ...by the way use plenty of penetrating oil at the
same time...dont worry the torsion bar is tough~!if the spring plate does remove itself from its 30 year old mate and the torsion bar remains behind
,you can then insert a tude on the end a yank it all round ..this may unfreeze the inner splines......chances arebyou may find that the t/bars are
very rusty ..replace them! with good used items of the same colour and dont forget they are markrd left and right...hope this will help and good
luck!cheers dsk member |

hey dude
try and get the spingplate out by either :
doing as stated above or
on the otherside that u can remove try and get the torsion bar out aswell as the springplate (the splined pipe that ur springplate holds to) get that
out and put a bit of bar down there and belt the other side out!! grease them up really well after your done!!
i had alot of trouble the same with mine but not even a 20 tonne press would seperate the singplate from the torsion bar!!
have fun
cheers
rhys
it aint just cool its aircool'd

Why do I always see 'kombi' and 'nightmare' in the same sentence when it comes to doing work on them?
