gearbox for 12a

hey, was wondering if a stock 4.125 t1 box could handle an atmo 12a carby motor.

these were about 112hp when NEW.

so say a used one makes about 100hp.

Absolutely. SSP box should be fine for that power level - there are plenty of NA VW motors around making more than that running stock SSP boxes.

Like any pobjoy steroid engined car - they are ~ 120hp or so.

my current box isnt the single side plate box with the 3.88r&p. mine is the 4.125 box with dual plates.

Power doesn't break things, torque does. An atmo 12A doesn't have a lot of torque compared to it's turbo counterparts, and is probably comporable to a reasonably worked 1600-1800cc VW motor, so I'd say it'd be fine as long as you don't abuse it.

Well, that and I have seen some 12A VW's getting around on the single sideplate boxes with apparently no issues.
