ive read recently that they've developed Metal Halide globes for cars now, much more efficient light at night time (produces more lux), to be
implemented into luxury cars first. unfortuantely they do like a bit more current, and i presume a bit more components e.i. ballasts behind the
fitting.

I put a pair of Philips VisionPlus in my mum's car and they are great. they claim 50% more light and 20m longer beam while retaining 55W
$30USD landed with free pair of whiter parking bulbs from http://www.powerbulbs.com
never use higher wattage bulbs (like crazy 110W jap bulbs) they will start melting things!
BMW and Lexus use xenon which is a different system |
