BRAKE LIGHTS

Hi,
Hoping someone could help me with this problem-When you switch the lights on, the brake light globes don't work. You put the brakes on and they light up! The number plate globe doesn't work. They all worked before the bug was painted. I don't want to get booked...

Hey beetle426, I know how it feels to have lights not working....

Please give us a list of what does what at what time exactly.....

When you pull the switch for your parking lights, what do you get? Front, back?

Same as with low beam, high beam, and indicators...and brakes...from there, we can try to help.

As for numberplate light, it will run off one of the tail lights, so there should be a wire going off there to the number plate light. Trace it, see if its hooked up. is the bulb in the light functional?

Thanks akean1 for the reply.I might go and ask the mechanic i go to in Newcastle-Nymeyer Automotive at Belmont. In most cases the more i touch, the more i destroy! These dudes are very helpful-they tell me what to do and if im stuck, they fix at a fair price. Thanks again.

Hey Phantom,
The front parking lights don't work.High beam works as i drive with high beams-one low beam globe is blown...Same for the back-they don't work.Just got it running great.I ditched the electronic ignition for the standard setup. Its fun playing with the new cars-i get out accelerated at the start but im all over them on corners... most of them...72 Super Bug.

true hs400, the earthing points would be a great place to start if it has been painted.

Did you get it done at a professional painter? If so, they should ensure the lights are all OK when the car leaves, part of the deal I reckon. No good painting your car but sending it out less roadworthy than what it was when it came in.

If it was done elsewhere (eg backyard job), can the painter give you a hand in looking? They should have a good idea, knowing what they moved, etc.

Or, if this fails....yes, a mechanic, you'll probably pay a few $$ but they can have a good look over. Or an auto electrician, if its only one problem area, etc they will probably find it quickly.

We're happy to help here, although a lot of it will come from you following wires and doing the manual work, as we can't see the exact situation.

What was the problem with it, and what did you buy? So it's all fine now, all the lights are OK?

do you know exactly what was wrong with it? may help later on when the same problem appears again...

my car did the same thing when I bought it, some lights didn't work. got out a fine sandpaper and just cleaned the contact points and it was good again!

My mechanic told me the back left brakelight had power-i accidently put the wires on the wrong way...The right side had no power coming to it.So he added a wire to the left side to feed power to the right side.Put in new parker globes at the front, adjusted the front lights and all is working. You could say most of it was labour-it had him stumped him for a while....
