seat belts....
Could someone tell me what the go is with having extra seatbelts put in your bus? Can i purchase a lap - sash belt from repco or the likes, fit it to
manufacturers instructions, and have DOT inspect it so i can change seating capacity on vehicle particulars? Or does it require some sort of engineers
mod plate? I'm up here in qld, for those who know our regulations.....

Well here's an update after talking to a few people. This is where myself, and i'm sure alot of others, could get caught out. If your bus has a
compliance plate for 2 seats only, and even though you have another 2 seats/seatbelts in the back( refering to camper), then this is completely
illegal. In the event of a misshap, you would not be covered by insurance, because the original compliance plates are for 2. In order to make this
comply, a mod plate, as Terry said, needs to be fitted. I'm sure it is the same for transporter models, even though there are 4, 6, 8 seats etc, what
does the vehicle compliance plate actually show? Be sure to have a look at your bus, i'm sure alot of ppl don't realise the problem.....

whta about an early bug which originally has no seatbelts installed? it's still registered to seat 5. what would the insurance do if my passengers
get hurt in a crash? |

The car came out with only 2 belts so legally you should be ok.
Less grief than if the rear had belts fitted but not approved.

ok,
but what if u want to change the belt??
Mine has two enteria belts at te front...but they are miss matched, and i want to change them to matching with ADR.
The car late beetle is regoed with 4 ppl...but i dont think an engineers was ever sought..
so my question is similar i guess (sorry if it is hijacking....really really am)
1/ can i juct buy the belts and change them over...
2/ will i still need to obtain an engineers??
3/ If i need all that, what is cost likely to be...a range will be fine ppl
oh, and i am in qld too
dubless. 
 And who the helled parked the Mitsubishi "Prancer" under my

A mod plate will cost $88, but thats only if you are adding additional belts. If you are replacing belts, the new belts you buy today are adr
approved, and so long as you fit them to the existing mount points, then a mod plate is not needed.
The rules are weird, a mate of mine has an EH, came out with no belts, but registered to seat 5. He wanted to fit seatbelts, for safety, but was told
he couldnt fit them without a mod plate......

here is a response to an e-mail sent to NSW RTA in regards to seatbelts
In order to legally fit seat belts to a vehicle which wasn't built to accommodate seat belts, you can contact an RTA Approved Engineer (list
attached) or contact Mobility Engineering on (02) 9842 4572 to find out your nearest "Authorised Restraint Fitting Station".
If you were to register the vehicle, then fit the belts, you'd still need to approach either the engineer or restraint fitting station for them to be
legally installed.
If you have any other enquiries, don't hesitate to reply or contact Technical Enquiries on 1300 137 302.
