SUGGESTIONS: external oil cooler placement on early bug
anyone got ideas or pics of places to fit an external oil cooler on a early beetle, somewhere with adequate flow but not too noticeable, dont want it
hanging off the front bumper or anything. and rather not chop into the body either.
would up near the front beam work with some ducting? any ideas much appreciated

try above the gear box, hanging from the panal above. mine is offset and sloped foward. with threaded rod holding up the rear. works vry well ( i have
to cover it in winter to keep the temp up!!)
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Thats a fair way for the oil to go aint it? Prolly wouldnt need the cooler by the time the oil gets to the front beam. Though i wouldnt know...

If you had hoodJax, you wouldn't really need a remote oil cooler would you? Are you running a doghaus shroud right now?

yeh ill be running a 36hp fan with doghouse, for freeway trips i know i will need it.
and i dont thnik thats a long way for the oil to go considering alot of people mout it off the front bumper or front spoiler.

External oil coolers: extra potential for leaks and blown lines, damage from rocks and gutters and speed bumps, 25 feet of high-friction lines means
you need bigger oil pump, they reduce oil pressure and they don't work when the car isn't moving... All good! :duh

how about just putting in a bigger cooler (t4) rather than the t1.
there will probably be some debate now about whether this helps at all.
nothing like an argument eh!
anyway, its another option
btw, the hoodjax are a great product.
engine lid up/down/on/off all very easy
installation easy too.
even if i did have to scratch my head for a while, eh glenn!

yeah, the Type 4 cooler is a good idea... with a bit of mucking around (I haven't done it)
On the same subject, I seem to have noticed the later-model 1600-engined cars (70s) have HEAPS more room in front of the fan housing (and a little
less room in the cabin behind the rear seat)... or am I seeing things?

I've read that it does help a little with the larger surface area and extra galleries of the T4 cooler. you'll just have to cut'n'shut the
doghouse a bit.
