Engine starting issues

G'day Guys,

I have a little issue with my 68 beetle, whats happening is;

I start my car in the morning ok then drive for about 10 min stop the car then if I immediately try and restart the car I don't have enough battery to do so but if I leave if for 10 - 20 min and try again all is ok and the car starts.

I have checked the battery leads/connections and they look ok
I have checked the water level in battery which looks ok

I think its probably the battery but thought I would see if anyone else had some idea before I spend $100 on a new battery.

thanks in advance

It sounds to me like vapour lock in the fuel system rather than a dead battery.

Happens to my car sometimes in hot weather. I was told to stop the problem take off the filler cap and let the pressure out, then try again. Can't say that it worked very well for me though. I just wait for a few more mins and try again:)

When you say you don't have enough battery, do you mean that the starter won't turn, or the engine won't fire?

Try taking the terminals off the starter motor and cleaning them thoroughly... Sometimes when they are hot (after the car has been running for a while) they can't deliver enough current
