i rang the RTA tech guys about this. as long as no structural rust, the car is fine, they said even if covered in surface rust, like frenzix's bug,
its legal. they said if cops giv u shit they hav no legal grounds as long as its not structural, also, multicoloured panels, primer here and there or
coated in primer is all ok too.

would make sense, deprive the rust of O2 so it cannot oxidise any further.... but galvanic action?
hmmmmm.... questions...I'll ask frenzix, see how his went..

The zinc based rust preventative seems to do that. Only problem is is that it's as thin as water and dribbles like nothing else.
If at first you don't succeed. Build, build again.

I think most overseas actually coat the vehicles in a flat clear lacquer, this stops the air getting to it and so stops the rust getting worse.
Cheers

Nahh...that wouldn't work Dave...you have to treat the rust that is active within the metal also, otherwise it would just rust from the inside....
What we have to do is look to how the museums 'preserve' the exhibits. There are a few products on the market (POR15 (?) for one) that we have
found, but all effect the 'look' of the finish in some way....
There has do be something out there, that is more user friendly...Oiling every month is a little too labour intensive....I would soon tire of that!!!
Sh#t! I get tired of washing my cars as it is!!!

i use lanolin over the body, and penetrol around the corners, under guards, bolts nuts etc, in the doors and holes. And penetroled the whole floor
underneath.. it creates a clear coating of a resin that extracts any moisture before drying. Fish oil is in the doors as well and under battery area
etc. It hasn't rusted more at all.
