Nice one guys, thanks for the suggestions. Hadn't thought about a 2l T4. Any idea what sort of modifications I'm going to need to make to get it to
fit?

Do some searches for Sharpbuilt-Mike has everything you need to convert the Type4 to an upright to fit in the engine bay.He can do the heater boxes as
well to keep the heaters original.

Forget the TIV...Too Heavy (and expensive! You can spend more in stock TIV heads than in and entire Subi engine!)) in a streetcar and run way to hot
in Oz, when you get serious with power...Subi is a better, more cost effective option if you don't mind non-vw power (VW own the patents on Subi
engines anyway!) IMHO.
And if you want a car that can run on PULP, get 45mpg and be greener than your average hippy, then Subi is the only way to go....
But if your a purist then disregard eveything I just stated!

I'd suggest you look at a 1916 or thereabouts T1-based engine with the usual twin carbs etc. Are you willing to chop up your car to mount radiators
etc? Subies are water-cooled.The Subie conversion will cost the same or more than a strong VW-based engine (not counting the gearbox upgrades that
will be required to hold the torque) and there's no turning back...nn[ Edited on 23-7-2005 by VWCOOL ]
