Rear disc or T3 drums?
Hi
Looking at doing a conversion for more stopping power. Disc up front. IRS rear.
Which is better T3 drums on the back or discs eg from Volks conversions. Also have heard of EA falcon rear disc kit.
T3 is cheap ie wrecker
Volks is $880
EA is $1017
So for discs the prices are close but are they worth doing over the drums.
Car is for road use.
I want to stop fast..:thumb

I would go the type 3 way.....
This is a fairly common modification....
around the world.......
Tried and tested.....

T3 drums will cost you $100 to begin with.. try it and see... Make sure you put good pads in up front (you need the Type 3 callipers, too) and
'race' linings in the rear. If that isn't enough on sticky street tyres, I am playing with a vented Falcon front and rear four-wheel disc upgrade

Your's is the blue offroad car with lots of mods right? Given that you are using tall tyres, I'd suggest that discs are better, especially if you
want some turning brakes.
Seagull sells the caliper brackets and hubs for the EA setup fairly cheaply. Then go to the wreckers and get the rest of the stuff. Give the calipers
new kits and put it all together.

sorry, let me clarify.
The blue baja is gone. The brake question is for the next project car to be used on the road.
Pete, you mentioned seagull sell the disc stuff. Do you have more info and a contact number?

i have type 3 rear drums on my bus ,they stop very well not to say that discs are not better, actually i read somewhere that drums will stop as good
as if not better than discs because there is more contact area but the prob with them is they will fade alot quicker , but really i dont know alot
about it , but i do know i am happy with the drums on my bus

I have 4 wheel disc brakes on my TIII...
Supra front disc rotors ($180) with RX7 4 piston calipers ($300) and magna rear discs and calipers ($90). Plus around 150 for machining and welding.
And $8 per wheel stud.
To say it stops better than any car I have driven is an understatement!...And I have driven some very good machinery!
For this set-up you will need to run 16" rims at least...I run 17s with 215/45-17 and 235/45-17, front and rear respectively.

I don't mean to hijack this post but I am going to put type 3 rear drum on my BAJA. Just would like to know if I need to use the type 3 backing plate
or just use the beetle one.
