Desert Splitty camping and offroading.

G'day,
went camping at the Giddies River (about 50ks from home) on the weekend and had a bit of offroad fun at the same time. We camped down at the waters edge, about 10 to 15m lower than the surrounding countryside and the track down was quite steep and deeply rutted and after going down very gingerly on Saturday morning I wondered if I would get it back up again and after one failed attempt (slid back down with brakes locked and slipped into a deep rut and had the p/s front wheel 600mm off the ground and no one got a pic of this!!!!!) I decided to enjoy the camping and tackle it on Sunday arvo when I had to when we needed to get out of where we were. I studied the track a few times over the weekend and decided on a plan that would give me the best traction option and when the time came tackled it and allthough not quite sticking to it I maded it up unaided. We had a great weekend!!!
Cheers, Ian.

Mick, everything done in a Splitty is fun!!! Some other folk dropped in Sunday arvo and said there son had caught a small saltwater croc in this hole last year and that a lot of people don't come here anymore because of the crocs.
Cheers, Ian.

Bizarre, it's a 1600 twin port with 009, extractors and a 34mm Stromberg of a Holden 186, 1600 Bay box with 205/80x16 All Terrain tyres. Could do with a 2000lt for this type of activity.
Cheers.

.....I'd so have to swim in that water hole.....buggar about the croc....that's what I'd find SO hard....if it's warm and there water I have to swim (even cold but the water looks inviting gotta plunge) ...I'd go demented if I couldn't....it's the one thing that I thinnk about when I dream of going that far Nth...don't know if I could resist the water...guess I'd have to

It looks a great spot...used to luv going away like that so much

Well I had a swim and survived. We were there for 2 days and didn't see any Crocs, only 1 black snake about 1m long but he disapeared.
It gets a bit exciting up here with the wildlife sometimes, like tonight I went out the back door to hang the washing on the line and here's a huge Buffalo at the bottom of the steps, frightened crap out of me!!
Cheers.

I think the Buff got a bit of a fright too and moved off about 10m and while Kaye kept the touch on him I hung the washing out.
Yeah, always a lot of fun and everyday is different around here, like today I walked to work with a Dingo (pet one from next door).
