Cost of a new golf GTI?

Hi guys wondering if anyone is looking to get one? or upgrade? or just drooling about it?

How much is a realistic price for one of those ? with the DSG of course :P

To those who booked/have one, how much did you pay?

To those who want one, How much would you pay?

cheers :)

I currently have on loan from VGA the new Gti with DSG, and all the other bells and whistles to go with it. This is one very fast beastie, with distinctive styling.

You are looking at approx $42,000 before on-road costs. There is currently an eight month waiting list in Australia.

First impressions? This car is every bit as good as the media hype surrounding the release.

This car is a press car for motoring journalists to use when doing reviews. I don't have one on order.

VW sales are on the up, so I guess any negotiation is on the table. Never know I guess until you ask. I have heard of good discounts in the commercial range being given, so maybe the passenger cars are offering similar.

dsg is direct shift gearbox... is an automatic with paddle shift (like formula 1) but is apparently the best of these types of gearbox's on the market.... the internals of the gearbox are duplicated so that when you are in second gear third gear is selected but held out by a secondary clutch.. when you hit the paddle for third gear it is instantaneously shifted as the clutches operate. I have read it is really good .

If you are interested in pricing volkswagen has updated their website to include the new GTI . you can use an option calculator to select the things you want - like leather, sunroof, sat nav etc... and it will give you a price of the car without onroads... i think the basic car in manual form is 39,990 plus onroads. DSG is 2300 option. If you choose all of the options it is around 52,000

no torque converter. The two clutches are "wet" clutches and are regulated electro-hydraulically. One clutch operates the odd gears and the other the even gears. They dont really say too much about how the take off is from stand still but i would expect it to be similar to a normal auto. Then when you are travelling they reckon the gear changes (using the sportsmode paddles or gearstick) are quicker than that of the manual gearbox.

Yeh, the DSG changes quicker than a manual - which means, the diesel 'auto' in this range is actually the quickest car for once, not the slowest... (Golf TDi DSG)

White looks amazingly good (and I normally hate white cars) black just looks awesome with the red detail on the front grill! Lovely rims on the gull doors...

I first saw my first MkV GTi in Berlin earlier this year - swoooon

ok so is the DSG a manual gearbox with automatic shift,
or a autogearbox, with automatic wet clutches?

Test volunteers? Now, let me see, that would make the list about 120 willing candidates, divided by the seven days I have the car for....hey, that means I don't get a drive!

Pop down on the weekend Drew, Saturday arvo? Give me a buzz on the mobile first. There's an improptu test session happening.

Paddles work well. They're located on the steering wheel, small flap controls with down shift (-) on the left, and once mastered are damn fine fun to use.

A week with this car is probably too long though. I haven't got enough points on my licence... " I tell you officer, it's the car that made me do it!"... I look forward to the liesurely pace of the Kombi.

I was one of the test drivers for the WHEELS magazine review published this month. It really is as good as what we all said. Just a stunning car... :thumb
