buggy waterproofing
hokay.
the other post proved its past time to waterproof the buggy. http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=41255
the air intake was high enough. i've found the little breather hole on a spare trans and will hook a breather hose onto mine when its next
accessible.
- do the rubber dizzy covers work or do i just use freezer bags and tape on an as needed basis?
- i can put the engine breather higher. wonder how much water gets in through other places like the oil filler and oil slinger?
- how well to the leads seal, is there a better way to make them seal?
- do i silicone over the coil terminals?
- if it keeps running i dont need to put a hose on the exhausts?
is it possible to get it so it keeps running a bit longer when submerged, i almost made it through. seems though it was electrics that stopped it.
then it was the sitting waiting to get it out that contaminated the engine and trans oils.

I just read in the BAJA BUGS AND BUGGIES book I bought how the dizzy has breather holes on its underside... the dizzy cap isn't water tight... oil
filler and breather will let in water and ignition leads aren't waterproof at the ends

Wheres the breather on the trans?
did the pan tunnel fill up with water, and is there a way to drain it?

I use a rubber glove and zippy ties and silicone 3 of the holes in the bottom ( leave the lowest one)

small hole at the top/front... Highest point of the gearbox. Will need drilling or similar to add a solid pipe so a hose can be clamped on and routed
up high
Pan tunnel has drain hole near gearbox front mount which will let water in!

a plastic micro irrigation fitting screws in and will get epoxied in place.
and i've got one of those jeff hibbert buggy books. thanks for reminding me. i will have to get it back off of the guy i lent it to...

oh yea.. and the pan and tunnel filled. tunnel seems to have drained most out the empty heater control holes. air compressor blew out the rest i
hope.
looks like there will only be 1 rubber glove under the kitchen sink after this weekend. haha
