Throttle Cable & Engine Support
I have started my conversion of a EJ22 into a 74 Karmann Ghia. What is everyone doing about the throttle cable? Also will the VW transmission suppoort
the Subaru engine? I have the Kennedy literature and for the Vanagon they suggest an engine support. But for beetles they say it doesnt need one. Is
any one actually runnung with out a support? I was thinking about for a little extra protection using a Kafer support.nn[ Edited on 13/7/2005 byflat_iv ]nn[ Edited on 13/7/2005 by flat_iv ]

Some people are not using a rear support, Eg. Subaruboxer's silver beetle in Germany. However, I advise that you use a rear support. The EJ22 is
getting close to double the weight of your 1600 by the time it's full of water and oil. You are going to need to brace the chassis horns in someway
to stop axle hop. My best guess would be installing, or fabricating a cup brace style setup plus some bar work in the back of the body to hang the
engine from. Subarus have alot of torque and can move around alot if not properly supported.
BTW, looks good so far. nn[ Edited on 13-7-2005 by pete wood ]

Did the is conversion this week into a Type3. Not only did we 'update' a late Type 3 with early model chassis forks (the ate cars donlt have them)
but we added support from under the gearbox 'banana' mounts up into the wheel arches.
1m length of steel welded under the support then two 60cm lengths up into the wheelhouses on teh Type 3
Oh yeah, we need a throttle cable too! I 'bodgied' one up to get the car home...nn[ Edited on 14-7-2005 by VWCOOL ]

The throttle cable is probably the only thing on my EJ22 conversion I have not thought about yet. I am just going to wait until it is in the bus. I
have a cable making contact who is able to make cables, including outers and ends, so I will see what I have to come up with.

I made a bracket that sits on the manifold and the cable that came with the motor does a U turn and sits in the bracket. I then used the second cable
sleeve that must of been for the cruise control, reversed it and slid it over the original VW cable then hard mounted the threaded end through a piece
of angle aluminium near the parcel tray.
Confused..... The only exposed cable is where they join and it moves between the hard mounted sleeved sections. I will get a pic. It works really
well.
