throttle body bushing
dual solex carbies (kadron kit)i have a bit of play in the throttle body shaft area, they need bushes fitted to take up the wear,
any of you guys had the same problem? who do you get to fix them? any idea how much it is likely to cost?
an aquaintance tells me i need to install sintered bronze bushes. has offered to help, he comes from an engeneering background
and has heaps of gear, lathes etc
what do you think?

Hey, Ive got a bit of play in the throttle shafts aswell i think, not heaps but we are going to rebush them one day. At the same time probably give
the whole carb a clean up. My dentist who is into vw's told me all about it and said the hardest part was drilling out the carb bodies that have been
worn. Let us know how you go.... very intrested.

cheers, theres a few links about rebuilding carbs on the net but i havent found any describing how to rebush yet.

Do not use sintered bronze - its used for bushes with an oil feed. Besides in this situation it would be to brittle.
Use brass.
You will find the original bushes will pull out. These can be replaced by someone with the expertise (your friend?)
but they will need to be "reamed" to get final internal diameter to suit the butterfly shaft.

hmmm....thanks for the feedback fellas, but i am still confused, my friend says sintered bronze , AJ Simms...says nylon, many others say brass...the
s/b is oil impregnated so as to lubicate..says it wont wear out, the nylon "last longer than brass", brass is what is used originally??? like
going to the doctor..need another opinion...

sintered bronze is hardy ill give it that im using a bush made of it in my flywheel cause im still waiting for mike sharp to send me the bush for my
t4 its been in there for about 18 months now and ill be looking at it when i pull the motor down to fix the oil leaks
