clutch cable install
hi just wanted to ask a silly question
just wanted to know if its possible to change the clutch cable on my kombi without having to take out the motor/gearbox, i need to put a new cable in
so i can driver her home and to the mechanics (approx 100kms all up)
i have tired to tighten it and use spacers but it is way too loose.
i plan on replacing the box and entire clutch in a few weeks, i just need to get the kombi there (so i dont have to pay for a tow.)

It should be a 15 minute job with only a pair of pliers and a socket needed
Undo the wingnut at the back until it comes off and put it and the washers in a safe place.
go to the front and take the belly pan off
the clutch cable will have a retaining clip or a pin with a splitpin in the end of it retaining the front section of the cable to the bottom of the
pedal. Undo the clip and pin
reef the old cable out.
assembly is reverse of removel
I used a stainless steel heavy duty cable when I replaced ours 8 years ago and it has never had to be adjusted and has never been lubricated. I
noticed when doing the Suby conversion that one (1) strand had broken on the cable, so I am replacing it, as I would rather do that than have the tube
wrecked by a stray stainless strand.

Like Helbus said. It's easy. It's not hard to drive a VW without an operating declutching mechanism either if you have to. I've driven the kombi
about 100km w/o clutch, and my S beetle maybe 1500 kms. That was one interesting trip.
If at first you don't succeed. Build, build again.
