Fuel Stink!
Hi,
I am getting a rather strong fuel smell in the cabin of my '71 std beetle. It appeared to be coming from the fuel inlet pipe and breather pipe so I
have replaced these. However the smell is still there I replaced these
pipes a couple of weeks ago and the bottom piece of pipe smells like fuel. I bought the replacement pipes from Vintage Veed Dub for the purpose. Fuel
line pipes were replaced about 2 years ago. Has anyone got any suggestions as this is starting to drive me nuts!

Wind your window down further.
But seriously....my 69 bug does the same, checked all the pipes, although mine only smells of petrol when you fill the tank, mostly disappears after
emptying the tank a bit. The smell comes in through the mesh on the dash.
We just put up with it. Will be watching the replies though.....

My 73 beetle does the same. After the tanks goes down a bit it goes away.

I was thinking of some air tanks and respirators My mother owns a 70 bug
and when I drove that last it had the normal beetle smell minus the petrol smell. I am determined to make the smell go away in mine as it a fairly
recent problem

Bought a 71 bug 12 months ago, and it suffered this very problem. Tried many solutions and then I put a new petrol cap on - voila!! smell reduced 75%.
Still a bit pongy only after she has been filled up, so now I only put in $20 a time and no smell at all.
